Coconut Oil the Ultimate Superfood

It might as well be the first thing to consume in the morning,
the only thing to cook veggies with,
and the “go to” for moisturizer.

From internal to external use, coconut oil is one powerful super food!

Lets talk coconut oil and why it is so good for us...

1. Good-bye FAT free diets

Coconut oil is a medium chain fatty acid (MCFA) that feeds our brain and speeds up our metabolism.

So, what does that even mean?

MCFAs are smaller than Long Chain Fatty acids making it easier to be digested. They require fewer enzymes and less energy to break down the standard fats. They are sent directly to the liver and burned as fuel firing up our metabolism. Which then, results in weight loss and fat burning while keeping on the muscle! (I want more of that!) The longer our bodies burn this kind of fuel we enter a state of ketosis. Ketosis is fat burning instead of carb burning. (Less pasta for me please!) Coconut oil burns off the ketones for fuel rather than the carb overload of glucose. Although it is easily digested, ketones burn slowly creating a balanced energy over time, instead of a quick glucose burn with energy highs and lows. This is one of the best ways to fuel our brain and keep clarity all day long. From boosting metabolism, balancing blood sugar, stabilizing hormones, and feeding our brain, coconut oil is a must for optimal health!

2. Antibiotic Properties

The days when pharmaceutical drugs were not an option, coconut oil was used for its antibiotic properties. Coconut oil consists of Lauric Acid that converts into Monlaurin as it is digested in the body. When this happens it creates an antibiotic formula that protects us against different kinds of bacteria and fungi. It is pretty amazing to learn about how nature offers us the vital nutrients our body needs to thrive and fight against disease. A happy and healthy gut means a happy and healthy mind!

3. A Natural Moisturizer

As if the benefit it has internally is not enough, we can only imagine what it does for the external body. Did you know that our skin is the largest organ of the body?! So taking care of what happens to our external body is just as important because it affects EVERYTHING on the inside. Chemically processed cosmetics, lotions, to even clothing can create an irritation that is absorbed through our skin into our cells. Going natural is always the best option and should be the first choice. Coconut oil can be used for cosmetic purposes to improve the health of skin and hair. Not only is it an outstanding moisturizer, but it also offers release in muscle tension and protection against free radicals. Vitamin E in coconut oil offers nourishing properties to the skin helping with anti-aging and wrinkles. Let’s put down that store bought brand lotion and start bathing our beautiful bodies in the nutrients it really wants!

Here are two simple ways to get more Coconut Oil into your diet:

3. Try it in your C O F F E E in the morning.

Mixing it with the heat will help it melt and create a more oily substance that tastes more creamy and delicious. When the healthy fats mix with the phenols in coffee it feeds the good gut bacteria we want more of. Start your day with a happy digestion and a boost to your morning coffee!

2. Cook your V E G G I E S with it.

Only a tablespoon or 2 is all you need (for a serving of 3 to 4). Brussel Sprouts are always a favorite! Clean them with filtered water, cut off the ends and then into halves. Put on a baking sheet, skillet, or even on the grill. Add the Coconut Oil and a little sea salt. Cook for about 20 mins (Depending on how crispy you like them.) It is a nutritious change to steamed veggies!
